FAQS

Everything you need to know before take-off

We want you to know exactly what to expect before you arrive.
Here are answers to some of our most frequently asked
questions about our flights, bookings and experiences.

Need something else?

Safety is the top priority when assessing whether bookings can proceed in adverse weather. Three main factors determine if a flight will go ahead: wind speed, visibility, and cloud height — though other conditions may also influence the decision. If there are concerns about the forecast, passengers are contacted as early as possible. See the Terms and Conditions page for the weather policy

Passengers of all ages are welcome, provided they are deemed ‘fit to fly’. Children of all ages are permitted onboard. Infants under 2 must be seated on an adult’s lap and do not incur a fare. In certain cases, two children aged 3–12 may share a single seat at Sydney Helicopters’ discretion.
The number of seats varies by helicopter type (see Fleet page). Typically one passenger seat is beside the pilot, with remaining seats behind; all seats offer excellent views. Seating is arranged by individual passenger weight, which is why passenger weights are requested at booking.
Any comfortable clothing and footwear. Dark shirts/tops are recommended for photos, as bright colours can cause reflective glare on windows. Hats and other loose items should not be worn outside the aircraft due to rotor downwash.
The primary heliport is Nepean Aerospace Park in Castlereagh All heliports offer free parking. Can I use my mobile phone to take photos and videos during my flight? Yes — passengers are not required to place phones in flight mode.
The only limitation is comfort. During later stages of pregnancy, passengers should feel ‘fit to fly’ prior to arriving. Anyone unsure of their capacity to fly while pregnant should contact their healthcare professional.

See the Terms and Conditions page. Cancellation fees apply to all bookings; credit card charges incurred are passed to the passenger. Cancellations with more than 24 hours notice are refunded 100%. No refunds for cancellations under 24 hours notice, except at Sydney Helicopters’ discretion.

All pilots for Sydney Helicopters are highly experienced in a range of helicopter operations including Charter, Scenic, Powerline Inspection, Aerial Water Bombing, Aerial Photography and Film. We are quality endorsed by ISO9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and all of our pilots receive extensive company training.
Luggage must comply with the Dangerous Goods brochure:
Landing anywhere requires permission from landowners (council or private) and the area must be safe and suitable. Contact Sydney Helicopters to confirm a location.
Night rules differ from daytime in two ways: (1) the type of flight determines which helicopter can be used — film/photography airwork at night can use a single-engine helicopter, while charter (moving people) requires the twin-engine helicopter; (2) night flights must be conducted at a higher altitude than during daylight, across all flight categories.
